Safety Guidelines
Guidr connects you with trade professionals over live video. The advice you receive is guidance, not a substitute for in-person inspection. Read these rules before every call — they keep you, your home, and our Pros safe.
For Customers
Know your limits
Never attempt work that's beyond your ability or that legally requires a certified tradesperson (notifiable electrical work, gas, structural changes). If a Pro tells you the job needs hands-on attendance, stop and book one.
Isolate before you inspect
Turn off the power at the consumer unit before opening sockets, switches, or fittings. Shut off the water at the stopcock before touching plumbing. Turn off the gas at the meter and ventilate the room before any gas-related call.
Wear the right PPE
Safety glasses, gloves, and sturdy footwear at a minimum. Add a dust mask for sanding or drilling, and ear protection for power tools.
Set up a stable shot
Prop your phone somewhere secure so both hands are free. Make sure the area is well lit, ventilated, and clear of trip hazards before the call starts.
Stop if it feels unsafe
If at any point the job feels beyond you, smells wrong, or looks dangerous — end the call and get a professional on site. There's no shame in stopping.
Protect your personal info
Keep the conversation about the job. Never share bank details, full address, copies of ID, or passwords with a Pro. Payment happens inside Guidr only.
For Pros
Stay inside your competence
Only give advice in trades and tasks you're qualified for. If a job is outside your scope, say so and end the call — don't guess.
Refuse unsafe work
If a customer is being asked to do something illegal, notifiable, or genuinely dangerous, tell them clearly and recommend they book an in-person tradesperson.
Escalate emergencies
Suspected gas leak, active flooding, exposed live wiring, fire risk — instruct the customer to leave the area and call the relevant emergency service immediately (999 / 112 in the UK and EU).
Keep it professional
Be respectful, patient, and clear. No personal contact details, no off-platform payments, no discrimination. Calls may be reviewed for quality and safety.
Document your advice
Summarise what you advised at the end of every call. It protects you, the customer, and the platform if there's ever a dispute.
Reporting & support
If something goes wrong on a call — unsafe behaviour, harassment, a serious incident, or a safeguarding concern — report it immediately to safety@guidrdiy.com. In a life-threatening emergency, always contact your local emergency services first.
Liability
Guidance delivered over Guidr is provided "as is" and is based on what a Pro can see and hear over video. It is not a substitute for an in-person survey, statutory inspection, or certification. You remain responsible for any work you choose to carry out. By using Guidr you accept that the platform and its Pros are not liable for outcomes arising from work performed off-platform.
