Terms of Use

Draft — not for publication
This page is a working draft and has not received professional legal review.
These Terms apply to Guidr's current free early-access service. Guidr is operated by Ben Black, a sole trader in the United Kingdom. Early access is still being developed: features may be incomplete, changed or unavailable, and paid bookings and built-in video calls are not yet part of the service.
1. About Guidr and these Terms
Guidr is operated by Ben Black, sole trader. You can contact Ben at ben@guidrdiy.com.
By creating an account, you agree to these Terms. Please also read the Privacy Policy and Cookie Notice.
2. Eligibility and availability
You must be at least 18 years old to create or use a Guidr account.
Guidr early access is available worldwide, but we may restrict or withdraw access in a country or region where legal, safety, technical or provider requirements make this necessary. You are responsible for ensuring that your use is lawful where you live.
3. Accounts and account types
Creating and securing an account
You must give accurate, current information, use an email address you control and keep your password and sign-in methods secure. Do not share your account or allow another person to use it. Contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
DIYer and Trade Expert roles
You must select the role that accurately describes how you intend to use Guidr. A DIYer account is for seeking information or guidance about personal projects. A Trade Expert account is for presenting genuine trade skills and experience and, when relevant features become available, helping DIYers.
You must not impersonate another person, misrepresent your role, claim experience or qualifications you do not hold, or attempt to obtain administrator access.
4. Free early access
Guidr is an experimental early-access service. Functionality may be incomplete, contain errors, change without notice, be suspended or be withdrawn. We do not guarantee:
- that any particular feature will remain available;
- uninterrupted, secure or error-free access;
- that a suitable Trade Expert will be available;
- that a request will lead to a booking or other service; or
- work, customers, income or earnings for Trade Experts.
Current access is free. Payments, refunds, scheduled paid bookings, Trade Expert payouts and built-in video calls are not operational. Separate or updated terms will be provided before any paid functionality launches.
5. Trade Expert profiles
Trade Experts may be able to create a profile containing their trade, skills, experience, biography and portfolio. Information must be truthful, relevant and kept up to date.
Guidr may review, request corrections to, approve, reject, hide or remove a profile to protect users and operate early access. A profile being approved or displayed does not by itself amount to an endorsement or a guarantee that every statement has been independently verified. Users should make appropriate checks for the particular work involved.
6. Your content
You retain ownership of text, photographs, portfolio material and other content you provide. You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to provide it and that doing so does not infringe another person's rights or confidentiality.
You give Guidr a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, process and display that content only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure and improve the service, show it to the audiences you select, and deal with support or legal issues. The licence ends when the content is deleted, except for reasonable backup periods or where retention is legally necessary.
Do not upload photographs or text containing unnecessary addresses, identification documents, financial details or information about another person without an appropriate reason and permission.
7. Acceptable use
You must not use Guidr to:
- break the law, encourage unlawful work or evade safety, certification or regulatory requirements;
- post content that is dangerous, fraudulent, false, defamatory, abusive, discriminatory, harassing, obscene or infringing;
- impersonate someone or misrepresent skills, qualifications, experience or identity;
- harm, threaten, exploit or invade the privacy of another person;
- introduce malicious code, interfere with security, scrape restricted information or attempt unauthorised access;
- use another person's content without permission; or
- use Guidr for spam, unsolicited marketing or other activity unrelated to the service.
8. Safety and reliance on guidance
General information or remote trade guidance can be limited by the description, photographs or other information available. It is not a substitute for an in-person inspection where one is reasonably required, and it does not replace certification, statutory approval or regulated professional services.
You must assess your own competence and circumstances, follow applicable laws and regulations, manufacturer instructions and safety requirements, use suitable protective equipment and stop if work appears unsafe or beyond your ability.
Emergencies and gas, electrical, structural, fire-related or otherwise regulated or high-risk work may require emergency services or an appropriately qualified professional to attend in person. Guidr is not an emergency service.
More practical information is available in the Safety Guidelines. If there is an immediate risk to life or property, contact the appropriate emergency service first.
9. Suspension, termination and removal
You may ask to close your account by emailing ben@guidrdiy.com.
We may restrict, suspend or terminate access, or remove content, where reasonably necessary to investigate misuse, protect people or the service, comply with law, enforce these Terms or discontinue early access. Where appropriate, we will explain the reason and provide a reasonable opportunity to correct information or raise a concern.
10. Guidr content and intellectual property
Guidr's name, branding, software, design and platform content belong to Ben Black or the relevant licensors. These Terms do not transfer those rights to you. You may use the service for its intended personal or professional early-access purpose, but may not copy, sell, reverse engineer or commercially exploit Guidr content except where the law permits it.
11. Our responsibility
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability or consumer right that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
If we fail to use reasonable care and skill, we are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, for loss caused by inaccurate or incomplete information supplied by a user, or for consequences of work undertaken contrary to applicable law, safety instructions or an appropriate recommendation to obtain in-person help.
Guidr is currently provided for consumer and individual Trade Expert early-access use. We do not exclude rights that apply because you are a consumer. If you use Guidr for business purposes, any additional business terms must be agreed separately before paid services are introduced.
12. Changes to Guidr and these Terms
We may change the service or these Terms as early access develops or legal and technical requirements change. We will show the updated date and give reasonable notice of material changes where appropriate. If a change requires fresh agreement, we will ask for it before it applies to you.
13. Law, complaints and contact
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer elsewhere, this does not remove mandatory rights or protections that apply under the law of your country. Courts with jurisdiction under applicable consumer law may hear a dispute.
Please send questions or complaints to ben@guidrdiy.com. We will try to respond fairly and promptly.
